Monash receives over $6 million in ARC funding
Minister for Education, the Hon. Christopher Pyne MP has today announced Monash University will receive over $6 million to fund new collaborative research projects.
The money has been awarded through the latest round of the Australian Research Council's (ARC) Linkage Projects scheme. More than $88 million will be awarded to 251 research projects nationwide. Monash received over $6,400,000, which will support 19 projects.
In his statement today, Mr Pyne highlighted a Monash project as a key example of collaboration and co-investment in quality research. The $499,000 initiative will see the University collaborate with the Victorian Department of Health and numerous other health services to ensure investments in redesign and innovation have wide reaching economic and healthcare benefits.
Vice-Provost (Research), Professor Pauline Nestor said the funding further strengthens the University's key aim to produce transformative research.
"Today's announcement marks a major step forward for our talented researchers who have been successful in securing funding," Professor Nestor said.
"One of our core values is to create research in response to the many challenges facing the world. These results are testament to the fact that the ARC sees the potential in our research.
Vice-Provost (Research), Faculty of Arts
"On behalf of the University I wish to thank the Council for their continued support. We also look forward to working with our many partner organisations to deliver impactful, relevant research."
Monash is ranked number two for Linkage Project funding in the State and fourth in the country.
The funding will support a diverse range of research projects at Monash including initiatives to improve transport infrastructure, drug development, robotic instrumentation and healthcare system reform.
34 partner organisations will be involved in the ARC Linkage Projects scheme, pledging an additional $12.2 million in cash and in-kind, representing $1.93 from partner organisations for every dollar funded through the ARC.
