Taking assessment out of the classroom-Assessing skills and values we really care about

The mandate to assess learning outcomes presents an opportunity for law school clinics. We believe well-designed clinical experiences can instill in our students critical skills and values, such as professionalism, multicultural competence, and commitment to justice and public service.  This presentation focuses on assessing these learning outcomes that are increasingly essential for today’s and tomorrow’s lawyers.

We will: 1) examine how clinics are uniquely situated to address these (and other) learning outcomes; 2) share rubrics and strategies for assessment; and 3) discuss how assessment may be used to both improve student learning and support our programs.
