Description

Interested in commercial law, real estate or property law? Join Clayton Utz, one of Australia's leading commercial law firms, in this exclusive event for Monash Law students.

COVID-19 is having far-reaching consequences for Melbourne commercial real estate. This presentation, led by property law experts from Clayton Utz, will provide you with unique insights from lawyers working at the forefront of emerging legal issues.

This special event is a unique opportunity to learn about a career in this area of law, especially ahead of clerkship season. You will have the opportunity to ask questions directly to the presenters and graduate recruitment staff about this practice area, as well as questions about Clayton Utz more broadly.

Presenters

Alison Kennedy, Partner, Melbourne Real Estate Team, Clayton Utz
Alison Kennedy is a Partner in the Clayton Utz Melbourne Real Estate Team and is a Monash Alumna. She has experience acting on a range of property-related matters, from project development and structuring, including joint ventures and development agreements, through to property acquisitions and disposals, leasing and general property advisory work. She provides clear insight into complex commercial arrangements, and expresses them in simple and effective documentation. A significant part of Alison's practice over the last couple of months has involved advice work in relation to the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly as it has impacted commercial landlords and tenants.

Sharene Hambur, Special Counsel, Clayton Utz
Sharene was born in Melbourne and educated at Fintona Girls' School. She holds a B.A. LL.B(Hons) from Melbourne University. Sharene has practiced in property law for over 35 years. Her practice covers a wide range of private and Government clients and she has worked on many iconic Melbourne projects including the establishment of the Southgate Precinct, the sale of Pentridge Prison and a number of Victorian Government road projects such as Pennlink and the Westgate Tunnel Project. Sharene is married with two adult children. Outside of work she enjoys involvement with communal organisations, cooking and reading.

Henry Matthys, Graduate Lawyer, Clayton Utz
Henry Matthys is a Lawyer in the Clayton Utz Melbourne Real Estate team, currently in his second rotation of the Clayton Utz Graduate Program.  Henry started as a Graduate at Clayton Utz in March 2019 in the Corporate, M&A and Capital Markets team and was admitted to practice in December 2019. Prior to working at Clayton Utz, Henry completed his law degree at the Australian National University in Canberra.

Alison Tassiou, Clayton Utz

Alison completed a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws at Monash University in 2007, and was admitted to the Supreme Court of Victoria in 2008. She practised as a lawyer for 7 years, primarily in the areas of commercial litigation and insolvency, before transitioning to a career in legal HR and recruitment. She has worked with boutique, mid-tier and top-tier law firms, joining Clayton Utz in 2016. Alison draws on her own experiences as a law student and lawyer to help prospective clerks and graduates navigate the recruitment process and a career in the law. Outside of work, you'll find her hanging out with her 11 month old daughter, Ava (most likely trying to stop her from eating leaves or paper!).
