Monash SJD candidate wins the prestigious 2012 National Mediation Conference Scholarship

Glenice Fox

Glenice Fox, a current Doctor of Juridical Science (SJD) candidate in the Faculty of Law, Monash University, has been awarded the prestigious 2012 National Mediation Conference Scholarship by the National Mediation Conference Ltd (NMC).

The NMC convenes a bi-annual conference for persons practising or interested in the practice of dispute resolution and supports the national mediation community by providing financial assistance in the form of a scholarship to a person enrolled in a higher degree by research involving the study of dispute resolution.

Glenice is a legal practitioner, a nationally accredited mediator and accredited specialist mediator with the Law Institute of Victoria.  Involved in the mediation field since 1998, she has been a member of a wide range of dispute resolution and mediation panels including the Dispute Settlement Centre of Victoria, Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal, Liquor Licensing Panel (Vic.) and the Office of the Victorian Small Business Commissioner.  Glenice has worked in diverse dispute contexts in the private, public and community sectors and in both urban and rural settings.  She has provided mediation coaching services to organisations including La Trobe University, Monash University, the Institute of Arbitrators & Mediators Australia and the Australian Commercial Disputes Centre Limited. A keen interest in the effectiveness of mediation and outcomes experienced by disputants was the catalyst for her to become a mediation researcher as well as practitioner.

Glenice’s SJD thesis The Dispute Settlement Centre of Victoria: Delving into Client Satisfaction and Durability of Agreements had been supervised by A/Prof Judd Epstein and Dr Becky Batagol and was submitted for examination on 30 March 2012.  She is delighted to be the recipient of the National Mediation Conference Scholarship in 2012 and have the opportunity to present the findings of her research at the Conference in Sydney during 10-13 September 2012.
