Your ceremony in Malaysia
Before your ceremony
We'll email you about six weeks before graduation with more information about your ceremony.
To help capture and celebrate your graduation day, you may want to organise the following services:
- photography services (pdf, 6.16 mb)
- flowers (pdf, 8.73 mb)
- plaques and merchandise (pdf, 0.2 mb)
- Sunway Resort Hotel and Spa bookings (pdf, 0.33 mb) (discounts for graduands and guests)
In the two days leading up to your ceremony, these services will set up on the Monash Malaysia campus, so you can pre-order flowers or register for photography.
Please direct any enquiries to the companies, and not to Monash.
On the day
Professional photographers and a florist will be on Level 12 of the hotel on graduation day.

What to bring
You need to bring your student ID to register for your ceremony and to collect your tickets and academic dress.
You should also print this web page for information about the venue.
What to wear
A graduation ceremony is a formal occasion and you're encouraged to dress accordingly. The graduation gown is a three-quarter-length robe that drapes open at the front, so your clothes will be visible. If you wish to coordinate your clothing with your faculty colours, see faculty colours for academic dress.
The cost of hiring your academic dress is included in the ceremony fee. The academic dress company will have a range of sizes so you don't need to request a size in advance. You can collect your gown on the day of your ceremony.
You'll be wearing a hood with your academic gown, which drapes over your shoulders from front to back. We recommend you wear clothing with a button (or sew a button on your top), to secure the hood.
The graduation ceremony is held at the Sunway Resort Hotel and Spa. Please ensure you plan enough time for travel, parking, and ticket and gown collection.
It's important that you're in your academic dress and at your compulsory ceremony rehearsal at least one hour before your ceremony begins. If you don't show up for your ceremony, you will be graduated in absentia. If you arrive late, you may miss out on joining the procession and receiving your award on stage.
On arrival, register to collect your own seat allocation and three guest tickets from:
- Lagoon 1, Level 15
Once you have your tickets you will be directed to collect your academic dress from the same area.
We don't post your tickets, and unfortunately, there are no extra tickets available for this ceremony.
After registering and collecting your academic dress, report to Lagoon 3. Please do this at least one hour before the ceremony starts for a compulsory rehearsal. Have your seat allocation ticket with you at all times. From here you will join the graduand procession, 30 minutes before the ceremony and proceed into the hall.
Give all your personal belongings to your guests to take care of during the ceremony. This includes flowers, gifts, handbags, car keys and any other personal items.
Your guests must be in their seats by the times in the table above. Doors to the hall will close 30 minutes before the start of the ceremony. This is when the graduand procession will start and late guests may not be allowed to enter until a suitable break in proceedings.
The ceremony will run for approximately 90 minutes. Guests with young children or babies are encouraged to sit near the doors, so they can take them outside to settle if they become restless during the ceremony.
After your ceremony, please join us for refreshments at the tea reception on Level 10. Guests are requested to wear their wristbands to gain access to the tea reception.
Return your gown
You must return your academic dress to the Casablanca Room on Level 10 by the required time. A late fee of $55 applies to late returns and fees may also be charged for damage.
If you fail to return your academic dress, a replacement fee of $500 applies.
Collect your testamur (degree certificate)
Please collect your testamur from the Casablanca Room, Level 10, after you return your gown.
