7-14 JULY 2019
NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia each July to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC is celebrated not only in Indigenous communities, but by Australians from all walks of life. The week is a great opportunity to participate in a range of activities and to support your local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.
This year, NAIDOC week is focused on three key elements representing the unified position of First Nations Australians.
VOICE. TREATY. TRUTH.
A voice for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders in Australia’s democracy.
A substantive treaty, which has always been the primary aspiration of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander movement.
Truth; in the nature of the ongoing dispute, in the true story of colonisation, and in the acknowledgement of how Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have gotten to where they now stand.
