About the fund
Research and teaching in librarianship, archives and records has long been a vital part of Monash University. Professor Jean Whyte was the foundation Professor of Librarianship in the Graduate School of Librarianship established at Monash in 1975, a position from which she retired in 1988.
Jean also left a sizeable bequest from her estate to support research in librarianship, records and archives, and to support the library's research collections in English literature, librarianship and philosophy, reflecting her professional and personal interests.
This money was used to establish the Whyte Fund for research into Librarianship, Archives and Records at Monash University.

Fellowship, Research and Travel Grants
The objective of the Whyte Fund is to provide grants for the advancement of research or scholarly publication in Librarianship, Archives and Records.
The Whyte Fellowships are designed to bring significant researchers into Monash to work with local academics over an extended period.
Research grants are available to Monash staff to support projects in these disciplines.
The Whyte Fund also offers travel grants for PhD students for international research visits. They are designed to give PhD students in librarianship, archives and records access to best practices in research, as well as developing their international network and fostering interest in international collaboration.
Whyte Lecture
This annual oration aims to provide thought leadership and inspiration in the librarianship, archives and records sector by inviting a distinguished speaker.
