Music and Multimedia Collection
The Music and Multimedia Collection contains information in a range of formats: music scores, CDs, vinyl record, 78rpm, cassette tape, DVDs, video tapes, CD-ROMs, microfilms, microfiche and kits.
Most collection items can be viewed and listened to in the library, using the multimedia equipment available, or borrowed for study or home use.
Rare and fragile items are stored in the Music Multimedia Closed Collection, and can only be viewed or listened to in the Special Collections Reading Room. Contact Dylan Young (+61 3 9905 3236) to arrange access to such items.
The Music collection features classical, jazz, popular and Australian compositions. Of particular note are the Ethnomusicology collection and the specialist music archives:
- Music scores
Including study scores, performance scores and parts, treatises and methods books, facsimile editions and collected works of major composers
- Sound recordings
Including CD, vinyl, 78rpm, audio cassette and access to a substantial collection of on-line recordings via databases.
The Multimedia Collection features film, television, history, Asian studies, Australian studies, archaeology, education, theatre and performance, and Australian and overseas newspapers in a variety of media types including:
- DVDs and Videos
Including feature films, foreign language films, television programs, documentaries, music master classes, music concerts and theatre studies
Including journals, newspapers, Monash University PhD theses and research resources
Including English literature and poetry, history, and Asian language
Including language tutorials, IELTS, education and instructional type content.
The Music and Multimedia Collection is located at the Matheson Library, Clayton, on Level 1.
Use Search to discover material in the collection. Most items are available for loan to Monash University staff and students, CAVAL, ULA borrowers and fee-paying members. Some collections of rare material are on closed access and can only be consulted in the library. Search will indicate whether the item you want is on closed access. Contact Catherine Hocking (see above) to access such material. Staff and students from other institutions can borrow most material held in the collection by requesting the required item from the Document Delivery/Inter LibraryLoans section of your institution's library.
Items in high-demand may be placed on restricted loan. Loans may be overnight or for only three hours.
Loans for class screenings must be arranged in advance with the Music and Multimedia Coordinator.
