Professor Ken Sloan - Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Senior Vice-President (Enterprise and Governance)

Professor Ken Sloan joined Monash University as the inaugural Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Vice-President (Enterprise) in 2017. In 2020, he was promoted to Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Senior Vice-President (Enterprise and Governance). As a member of University Executive, Professor Sloan is responsible for providing University-wide leadership and strategic support for the creation and acceleration of major partnership opportunities, government relations, precinct development, new opportunity creation and revenue development, commercialisation, innovation, entrepreneurship, strategic intelligence & insight, group governance and institutional risk.

Professor Sloan is a Professor (Practice) in the Department of Management in the Faculty of Business and Economics, Monash University.

Professional background

Professor Sloan has had extensive international experience in business development and commercialisation, university governance, administrative and commercial leadership.

Prior to joining Monash, Professor Sloan was appointed to serve as Special Adviser to the Stephen A. Schwarzman Education Foundation, spending a semester at Tsinghua University in Beijing. He led the transition team delivering the opening of the Schwarzman College and support for the inaugural class of Schwarzman Scholars. Professor Sloan continues to serve as Panel Chair for the Schwarzman Scholars Asia Selection Round.

Professor Sloan served as Registrar and Chief Operating Officer (COO) at the University of Warwick. As COO, he was responsible for leading professional and administrative services at the University, leadership of Warwick’s commercial and commercialisation operations; professional leadership of many aspects of its international agenda, and income enhancement and business development activities. He served as Secretary to the University Council and as Chair of a number of the University’s subsidiary companies. He led new commercial business creation and chaired the University’s fundraising trusts in Singapore and Africa, and was a member of the trusts in the USA and Hong Kong. Professor Sloan was also instrumental in the development of the Monash Warwick Alliance, serving on its Board.

Prior to his most recent role at Warwick University, Professor Sloan was the Business Development Director, Universities and Higher Education, with Serco, a FTSE 100 company. His responsibilities at Serco included review of cross-sector medium term developments within higher education, and the dentification of business development opportunities across the sector.

Professor Sloan has chaired and served on the boards of a number of institutional subsidiary companies and international fundraising and development trusts. He currently Chairs the Board of Monash Investment Holdings, the Audit and Risk Committee of the IITB-Monash Academy and Chair of the MTTI (Shenzhen) Executive Committee. He serves on the Boards of BioCurate Pty Ltd, Monash College and Warwick University Enterprises (Australia), and serves as Chair of the Victorian Heart Institute Strategic Advisory Board.

Professor Sloan’s qualifications include an MA (Hons) from the University of Glasgow, an MBA from the Warwick Business School, and is a member of CPA Australia. He is a Fellow of the Association of University Administrators (FAUA) and a Fellow of Royal Society for the Arts, Manufactures and Commerce (FRSA).
