Long wait over for VCE students

More than 3500 students are expected to be offered scholarships to attend Monash University following the release of VCE results today.

Early Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre data shows Monash is the most sought-after destination for this year’s cohort of Year 12 students with almost 15,000 listing Monash courses as their first preference.

Among them is Joshua Nung, who hopes to study a double degree in Science/Computer Science at Monash next year.

After taking part in the University’s Monash Scholar and Extension programs, Josh is more than ready for university life after undertaking a university mathematics subject at Monash this year in which he achieved an average of 99 per cent and was named Dux.

“I was pretty happy with the result, it was probably one of the highlights of the year for me.”

The Mentone Grammar student says he is ‘pretty confident’ he’ll receive a high enough ATAR to gain entry to his first choice course.

“But of course I am very much hoping it’s high enough for me to be offered a scholarship – that would be a great end to the year,” he said.

Scholarship offers will commence from Friday 15 December.

Monash University Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Vice-President (Education), Professor Susan Elliott, congratulated all students receiving their VCE results today.

"It is a great achievement of which you should all be very proud. But we also know that an ATAR doesn't define you, and it doesn't have to hold you back if it's not what you expected.

"There are more options and pathways than ever before to help you get where you want to go."

Prof Elliott encouraged those students looking to change their preference to take advantage of all the information and support available.

She said Monash offers a range of courses, entry schemes, scholarships and pathway programs for those still assessing their options.

“Monash recognises potential, no matter where it comes from – we want to ensure people from any background or personal circumstance can access a world-class education at Monash.

“Our course offerings are among the most flexible and diverse in Australia.”

She encouraged students to attend the Monash Change of Preference Expo at the Caulfield Campus from 3-7pm on Monday 18 December.
