Parking sessions are required so that traffic officers can identify staff and students who are eligible for free parking.
Parking will continue to be free for staff and students in Blue and Red permit areas across all of our Australian campuses and locations until 21 February 2021. Please note these arrangements are only for Blue and Red permit areas, and do not include metered parking or Green and Yellow permit areas.
Pay As You Use (PAYU) parking has been introduced from 3 August 2020 to make parking on campus fairer, flexible and easier for staff and students.
PAYU parking is available for staff and students to park in permit areas on campus. Annual Blue and Red permits are no longer available for students and staff.
Daily PAYU parking is registered through the CellOPark app. If you have previously downloaded and registered an account through the CellOPark app to park at Monash, you may continue using your account and do not need to re-download the app.
To access free parking during the free parking period, make sure you register using your 8-digit student/staff ID number. If you have already set up your account, you can edit your profile and add your ID number.
Entering your credit, debit or pre-paid card details is a requirement to register your CellOPark account. However, you will not be charged as long as you register using your staff/student ID number, park in Blue or Red (staff only) areas and start your parking session.
The CellOPark Guide explains how to register on the app and start and stop your parking sessions, or you can follow the steps below:
Download the CellOPark app from the App Store (on iPhone) or the Google Play Store (on Android).
Enter your mobile number.
Complete the registration details: name, email, postcode
Insert your 8-digit student/staff ID & select Monash University in the institution section. Staff must input their entire 8-digit number including any leading zeros. To have access to free parking, ensure you have your ID validated on your profile - your account must show either Staff or Student
If you select Premium reminders there is a monthly fee.
Create Password: enter the SMS code & create your password
Set up your credit, debit or pre-paid card. Despite this requirement as part of the registration process, you will not be charged for parking during the free parking period.
Select Add Vehicle and enter your vehicle registration plate number.
You can also: register online at www.cellopark.com.au or register by phone: call (03) 9111 1799 or 1300CELLOPARK
These permits are only available for staff through the vPermit system. A 30-day permit is suitable for staff members who drive to campus every day, and would prefer to use a permit rather than starting daily parking sessions through the CellOPark PAYU app.
The 30-day permit is currently free to coincide with the free parking period. To register for this permit select the Staff Free Temporary Permit from the drop-down permit menu.
Go to the Transport & parking tile in the my.monash portal and select: Buy/manage parking permits. This will take you directly to the vPermit system
Select Apply for a permit
Select your campus from the drop-down menu
From the list, select the free 30-day staff permit option
Input your vehicle registration details and nominate an Active vehicle
On the payment confirmation screen, review the details and if correct, acknowledge reading the Terms & Conditions and select Activate. You will receive an email confirming your registration of this permit.
Seven (7) days before your 30-day permit expires you will receive an email asking if you would like to register a further 30-day permit.
To re-register for another 30-day permit, log-in to the vPermit system via the Transport & parking tile and select the Purchase Again button. Your new permit will automatically commence once the current permit ends. If you do not renew your current permit prior to it expiring, you will need to repeat the steps listed above.
When you arrive on campus, and have registered a CellOPark account using your Monash student/staff ID, you are now ready to start your free parking session. You can do this on the CellOPark app, online at www.cellopark.com.au or by phone: call (03) 9111 1799 or 1300CELLOPARK.
To start a parking session using the CellOPark app:
Open the CellOPark app when you park
On the Street Parking screen, select Monash University location and the code for the area you are parking in. For example: Clayton Blue code 3800521.
Select the vehicle you are using, ensuring the vehicle registration is correct. If you drive a different vehicle to campus, make sure you select the correct vehicle registration number in the CellOPark app. This will help us correctly identify you as a staff or student parking for free. Incorrectly activating your vehicle may result in a fine.
As parking is free, you do not need to press STOP when you are ready to leave campus.
Only staff who register with their Monash staff details will be eligible to park in Red permit zones.
Parking will continue to be free for staff and students in Blue and Red permit areas across all of our Australian campuses and locations. We’ll continue to review these arrangements and keep you informed of any changes. This includes a commencement date that the below parking rates will be in effect.
When PAYU parking payment commence, parking rates will vary based on the area you park in, and will be charged by the minute with a 5-hour maximum daily cap. All rates are equivalent to those used to determine the annual permit prices in early 2020.
Blue (staff and students)
Rates are GST inclusive

Day (capped after 5 hours)
Red (staff only)

*The 30-day permit is valid for 30 consecutive days from the day of registration. The permit cannot be cancelled once purchased.
The University uses Licence Plate Recognition (LPR) technology to confirm that a vehicle has a valid parking session or permit.
It is critical that you enter your number plate correctly into the CellOPark app. If your vehicle registration number is incorrect it will not be recognised and you may be issued a parking infringement. If you are unsure about your registration number, you can check online at the VicRoads website.
Registered more than one vehicle in CellOPark?
If you use different vehicles to drive to campus, make sure you select the specific vehicle you are using through the CellOPark app. Activating the correct vehicle registration details in CellOPark when you park will ensure a parking infringement is not issued.
