Peer Mentoring Program

The Science Peer Mentoring Program aims to assist first-year Monash University Science students in their transition from high school into university by creating a fun and supportive network between program coordinators, peer mentors and first year students (mentees). The program runs for 6 weeks at the beginning of both Semester 1 and 2.

  • Receive beneficial and effective training in mental health, cross-cultural communication, supporting the LGBTQI community and how to be an effective and supportive mentor
  • Meet with your mentees weekly and organise fun activities to help your mentee settle in, make friends and have a fun and successful first year
  • Attend weekly social events
  • Opportunities to develop your leadership skills and talents
  • A chance to develop your interpersonal and communication skills as you guide and assist new students
  • Tangible mentoring skills and experience
  • Boost your CV through the experience and new skills gained
  • Lifelong friendships with fellow students
  • Attend mentor training sessions and be available during Orientation Week
  • Organise weekly correspondence and meetings with your mentees for the first 6 weeks of semester
  • Facilitate and support participation in social events and group-based activities
  • Maintain good communication with your team leader and mentor partner
