Internships and career development
Internships and career development
Looking for career development opportunities within your science program? There are three units that can give you a competitive advantage when looking for jobs. The units can count as science electives within the BSc, BSc Advanced- Research (Honours) and any double degree with the BSc.

SCI3910 Science schools project
In this unit you are placed in teams in a school environment where you teach a module of science to school students. Through this immersive experience you further develop skills that are transferrable to any workplace: communication with a range of stakeholders, project and time management, and team work are some of the skills valued by the students who completed this unit. You can also use this opportunity to taste teaching as a possible career. This unit is offered in Semester 2.

SCI3920 Science internship
Put your knowledge and skills into practice and gain professional experience while earning credit towards your degree. The internship experience will give you hands-on, real world exposure to the workplace environment and will enable you to further develop graduate attributes and employability skills. The internship will help you develop self-awareness of your ability to meet stated objectives and areas in need of improvement.

SCI3930 Career skills for scientists
This unit uses work-related activities to enhance transferable skills including commercial awareness, leadership, teamwork, and communication. Through scenarios and creative problem solving activities you will learn the nuts and bolts of the business environment. You will self-assess your skills against what employers look for, write a CV and job application that will make you stand out, learn how to build your network, and how to present yourself professionally. This unit is offered in Semesters 1 and 2.
Career development support and resources
Throughout the year there is a range of career programs and events targeted towards science students, including our Science Industry Week held every August where students have the opportunity to hear from employers, industry guests and graduates during a panel networking expo. These programs are advertised via Career Gateway and in the Science Student Lounge.
In addition, through Career Connect you have access to numerous online resources and to career consultants, who can provide advice and assistance on resume development, job search, maximising opportunities during your science degree, ensuring your graduate job-ready, graduate employment programs, workshops and industry events. If you are in your final year you also have access to
Career Success Coaching which can help you set yourself up for success.
Undergraduate students interested in research can also undertake interdisciplinary research activities with the support of the Centre for Undergraduate Research Initiatives and Excellence (CURIE). Benefit from networks that reach across the university and beyond.
