The School of Earth, Atmosphere and Environment offers an opportunity to build on the knowledge and experience gained from your Honours or MSc degree and professional experience through its PhD and MSc research programs. The school has a large, diverse, and vibrant research community of academic staff, research staff, and postgraduate students.

The School of Earth, Atmosphere and Environment at Monash University is a world-class centre for research in diverse areas of Atmosphere, Climate, Geography, Environment and Solid Earth.

The school is ranked:

  • 33rd in the world for Geography (QS Subject rankings 2019)
  • 51-100th in the world for Earth Sciences (QS Subject rankings 2019)

The School of Earth, Atmosphere and Environment has a large and dynamic postgraduate community with students drawn from a wide range of nationalities and backgrounds. This creates a productive scientific environment as well as an active social atmosphere. Postgraduate students in the school are researching into topics that cover the entire spectrum of Earth Science, and there is an emphasis on teamwork and interdisciplinary research. We also have active collaborations with other Universities within Australia and overseas, industry, and state and federal government agencies.

Researchers at Monash have access to an enviable range of analytical and technical equipment. These facilities are supported by well-trained and dedicated technical staff and teaching associates. We also have access to the Australian Synchrotron (which is located at Monash).
